I think they are and will become more powerful as our society moves more and more towards being operated by computers. With offices trying and some succeeding on going to a paperless work enviroment, and with windows holding 97% of the computer market in OS's, they will only continue to grow. Plus they continue to dominate the market with thier Office and other business targeted software.

Microsoft still has to pay taxes, payroll ect...The Mormons have the most successful business. No taxes, no payroll and every member gives 10% of their income. Now THAT is a successful business.

Probably not, as other sources will eventually come up with better and cheaper software. De Beers is probably the most successful in the long run. They have almost a monopoly on the world diamond trade, and as the result of restricting/controlling demand versus price, they have warehouses full of raw diamonds.

No, there have been numerous more successful businesses measured by turnover, number of employees/customers, profits, global spread, etc., but few if any of them have made so many of their top people multi-millionaires as has Microsoft.

Define successful. Are they really successful? In terms of what? Anyway, I don't feel they are the most successful. Personal opinion.
