Hitler famously said "I decide who is Jewish or not." In this case he was being purely pragmatic - the man he was referring to was a General in the Luftwaffe, although there were at least two Generals in the Wehrmacht who were of Jewish origin.
Hitler may have been an insane racist but in some circumstances he was a pragmatist. On the other hand it can be argued that his antisemitism was purely a cynical political strategy to unify the German people by playing on Germany's history of anti-Jewishness. However, history shows that Hitler's personal feelings towards Jews verged on the pathological and lead directly to the Holocaust.

Up until after the first world war Germany was one of the most tolerant countries in Europe for people of the Jewish Faith. That is why so many Jews in Germany couldn't believe what Hitler and the Nazis were doing to them. The French have a far longer history of antisemitism Ever heard of the Dreyfus Case where an army officer was hounded out, convicted on false evidence and sent to Devil's Island basically all because he was a member of the Jewish Faith. As some answers have said Hitler was a pragmatist and would use anyone if it was to his advantage.

Hitler had Jewish ancestors.
Jews supported the early NSDAP.
And so did the rest of Europe.
And the english Royal Family comes from a German Bloodline.
So it's possible he had Jewish (or Jewish Origin) Soldiers.
Doesn't change the fact that he was a prick and all that follow him (still).
Worst of all is: I am German and I hate Nazis, yet I always will be insulted and judged on that ******* ****.
What about Einstein, Kafka, Oppenheimer, Hesse, Bach, Max Ernst? Germans, some Jews but all had to flee.
And Hitler was Austrian!!!
I will never understand, nor tolerate!

It wasn't so much about being a Jew or what not, it was about being "Pure" Many people who had no connection with Jewish race or faith were thrown in camps or jails also, even for a glance that was seen unfit. If you read a book about the Holocaust or Hitler you will realize that the selection process had very little rhyme or reason.

Because the Nazi's were hypocrites. The ridiculous Nuremberg laws meant that people were supposed to prove Aryan ancestry back centuries, and of course, few people could do this in reality. Officials were bribed, records falsified.
