Sure the democrats are smarter than the republicans, but I would like to suggest anyone be an independent thinker instead of a party member. Each party has its pros and cons.

J. Edger Gould postulates that, over time, any created system loses its extremes over time. It's one of his theories. And I think that, in this case, it kind of applies.
Since the inception of the two party system, Democrats have become more conservative in many areas, while Republicans have become more liberal in many areas as well. Unfortunately, the biggest exception to the rule is our current president. Even many Republicans have come to hate him.
What you are describing, however, seems to be more along the lines of two separate worldviews. The question may sound less political if you presented it as a choice between an open minded perspective verses one that is refractory.
Obviously, keeping an open-minded perspective is more likely to lead to a greater breadth of knowledge. Nowadays, lateral thinking ("out of the box") seems to be more respected than intensive (and entrenched) thinking.
However the greatest way to maximize intellectual potential is to retain focus (through "pure" disciplines such as math and language learning) without losing the ability to think in different categories (reading a great variety of material ranging from fine-print to pulp fiction to literature to newspapers and so on...).
If young people followed this formula, I'm sure it would benefit our species.

I may get thumbs down but I am going to state my opinion since you asked.
Believe it or not I am a liberal republican. Many republicans are open minded, progressive people whom see things differently from democrats.
Anytime you get a group of people together you are going to have difference of opinions. It becomes a from a person's sense of perception of what our country needs. Like seeing the glass as half empty vs seeing the glass as half full.
Two people can see the same event and have the same information. But what sometimes happends is a difference of perception. The democrat may see the event as a good thing for our people but the republican may see the event as a bad thing for our people.
The problems develop in my opinion when people on both sides of the political fence can't find a common ground or good for our country. Sometimes both sides need to compromise so the best outcome can be reached for our country and people. Some times people are so determined to have his/her way that they don't see what is really in the best interest for all of our citizens.
I am NOT (sorry typo) bashing you or anyone. You need to do what you think is right but that does not mean I have to agree with you. That is what makes this country the great nation it is.
Thanks

specific. No Republican right here ever responds with reality, reason, evidence, to help their attitude. sarcastically, even whilst answering this very query, as though TO tutor in simple terms HOW stupid they are particularly. I observed a stat that purely 6% of Scientists are Republicans. whilst i grew to become into youthful, it grew to become into any incorrect way around. For some reason, i think of beginning with Clinton, the Republicans went insane with impeachment, pretend scandals, and that's once you had a improve of defense force strikes, anti-UN strikes, and dissimilar lunacy on the splendid. additionally, the lunacy on the left began in the 60's died out, so i assume they went over to the splendid. on the left, the Black Panthers have been waiting to pass armed into the capital development and protest gun regulations. looks like something Palin ought to now, would not it?

i'm not really sure about this. i remember hearing on this radio show that john kerry and george w. bush were estimated to have the exact same IQ (120). i think maybe democrats tend to be better educated and therefore use more intelligent language and come across as more intellectual. i also think they are typically more progressive. but as far as them actually being SMARTER, now that i can't tell you.
there are 60 million registered democrats in this country and i'm pretty sure they a'int all smart. =)

Not individually maybe but there were statistics I saw somewhere that more Democrats have higher education but lower paying jobs...Republicans, as a group, have less education but higher paying jobs on average.
Of course you can always find Republicans who are more educated with less income than some Democrats but I think as a group that may be true.
Now being able to have that higher paying job certainly doesn't make them stupid! However, I think Democrats are more philosophically and intellectually minded but philosophy has never paid well...the classic doctorates degree asking "Would you like fries with that?" Intellegent but.......
Republicans, on the other hand, remind me of a fellow who has only one tooth (and he can lie through it), chews a piece of hay and has one suspender broken but he owns an oil refinery. Stupid but......

They are open minded, as long as you go along with their agenda.. present another one and you can see what happens in congress. may be of interest for you to watch them in action sometime...if you had said pessimist rather than intelligent, I would agree with you. But what you exhibit is the arrogance of the democrats. If you consider your question to be an intelligent one, you only brand yourself with it!

Thank you Dr. Fraud (Freud(?) did I spell that right?) I guess you're right because seeing that John Kerry and George Bush both attended Yale and were both members of Skull & Bones, Kerry must have gotten much higher marks because he's one of you Liberal free thinkers, right? OOPS another liberal theory goes down in flames. maybe that's where the term Flaming Liberal comes from.
