All the answers you have recevied are good especially the lipsi's answers. But you can find just about anything you want on a very small scale in an island called Kalymnos which is just about an hours boat ride from Kos or about 10 to twelve hours from Pireaus by ferry. It has everything you expect in Greece, but because its small and a little out of the way it is very inexpensive. Most US tourists never bother with this place but any number of Nothern Europeans like to go there, because of the cheap prices, night life, beaches, weather and food. Not one of the prettiest islands but you get a real good feel for Greece. They even have internet cafes. Been there 5 or 6 times.

Well my family come from Greece around Thessaloniki. It depends on what you are looking for. Crete is magic. If you are looking for lots of nightlife, the eastern part of the island is full of it(Malia, Hersonnisos, Stalis). If you are looking for a romantic walk along a beach with lovely seafood restaraunts, Rethemno is your answer. It has an old village in the centre of it with traditional shops and a lovely wee harbour. It also has a Fortress in the western part of the town. For huge water parks, Malia area is the best with four water parks. For stunning beaches, there are a few. Agia Pelaghia has a good one so does Mali, but the best is Elafonnisi in the south west of the Island.

CORFU, I think... It's a beautiful island, big enough so as to not get bored, with wonderful clean beaches of Ionion sea, and nice nightlife like all greek islands.

It depends on what you are looking for...

The Lipsiot has given a perfect answer.

I would personally recommend you Santorini which combines view, beaches, antiquities, night life, natural life all together; however, avoid going there from mid-June till end of August. It's so crowded that you might lose your marbles!

Serifos, the sandy beach infront of the camping because i made love to my girlfriend there for a first time but generally i would suggest the Old Town of Rodos (Rhodes) because it's like you're going back to the mideval times. It's really worth visiting it.

Well, I've only been to Athens and Mykonos. I iked Mykonos the best. Its good if you want to get to a good beach. I heard that Santarini is nice too. Athens is very city-like. It looks like any other European city. It is good if you want the history, because of the Partenon and the Acropolis.
