I favor Allen Ginsberg -- probably because I was able to attend quite a few poetry readings by him, and lived in the same town, so I saw his personality.

He was so cool! Not only a great poet, but a fun guy, who actually loved his family (maybe these facts don't come out when you read about the Beat stereotypes)....he returned to New York City from Colorado after his mother became ill -- and that's where he died.

But he was just a wild, whacky guy, into Buddhism, traveling, writing, his friends, very loyal, and super smart! He had such a wonderful way of reciting poetry, and you felt drawn in. He was a very authentic, free-form, talented and crazy guy -- I vote for Ginsberg.

And most of the Beat guys all knew each other. Dylan I wouldn't really put into that category (I know he's not an actual "Beat" poet) (and he's actually my cousin), and I know that his public persona is not his personal persona......

I miss those Beats!

Many think it is Kerouac. They believe because of him the 'Beat' generation was coined and came to be.
Although this is partly true, the other players in the game.. Ferlinghetti, Ginsberg, Corso, Di Prima, Burroughs, Williams etc. played a much larger role.
In my opinion...Ginsberg was the Ultimate Beat Poet.
Dylan of course took some influences from the Beats. Ginsberg influenced him in regards to thought stream writing which is apparent in "Tarantula", not to mention each influenced the other in their long friendship.
I guess everyone has their own opinions on who the King is.
What is your opinion?

According to dyslexics, the Lion is the King of the Beats.
(Sorry ... feeble joke, but couldn't resist it!)
