What version of windows are you using? Do you know if you have Windows Service Pack 2? If not, that is probably what's wrong - download the latest Windows Updates from the Windows Update website (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)

Do you know if your computer is set to automatically connect? To check, do the following:

1) Go to Start menu ---> Settings ---> Network connections (Or alternatively, Control Panel ---> Network connections)

2) Right click on the connection that is connecting to the router, and select 'properties'. You should see a list of protocols - like, TCP/IP and Windows File and Printer Sharing.

Click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) selection, and hit 'Properties'.

3) You SHOULD see that 'Obtain an IP adress Automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server addresses automatically' are both selected. If not, select them, and press ok.

4) Once this is done, try unplugging/reconnecting your wireless card, if you can.

If none of this works, there could be a number of reasons:

Your computer is too far away from the receiver.
You need to update your Windows to the latest version.
If you are using a router, the router may be encrypted.
Your network card could be faulty.

I'd suggest finding someone that knows about computers and networking that lives nearby to come and help you with it all. You can only explain so much on the Internet!

sounds like you need to go into your Internet Explorer and under Internet Options - Connections - LAN click on Automatically Detect Settings
Or it could be that your Wireless connection may be misconfigured and not recognising the IP allocation of the Modem/Router ... also if you have a firewall it maybe blocking the IP range
Could be a number of things ...

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

I don't thinkl the connection is made properly.

You said it attempts for a longer time and gies up. It necessarily neednot be connectiong to the connection.

Try using automativcally detect in TCP/IP properties of the network connection.

it relatively is the comparable as for a under pressure connection. It makes use of DHCP to furnish the IP handle information, verify DHCP is configured on your router, and that there's no longer a static IP handle already configured on your computer's on the spot interface.

Does it ask for a WEP key? Does it result in the "limited or no connectivity" message?

Are you able to connect to other wireless internet connections in other locations?
