Is it true that if you get struck by lightning, that you're more likely to be struck again? I hear lots of stories about people that have been struck more than once.

I have heard that before too, but as a meteorologist...I can say I have never found any scientific basis for that theory.

However, I was working for the National Weather Service about 20 years ago when I got struck. After I returned to work, all the staff gave me a hard time about that fact that now that I had been struck once, I was more likely to be struck again.

After my stint with NWS, I was a storm chaser for 10 years, and in those 10 years I never even came close. In fact, in the last 20 years I have come close only once...and that was because I was stupid enough to be standing next to an outside light fixture as a thunderstorm was moving through.

Lightning will strike the tower many times. Many times people get some pretty bad shocks when the lightning strikes near by. It generates a large magnetic spike that induces electricity into all metal objects and if u are close enough it will spike u too.

Actually, it's nearly impossible to only be hit 'once' by lightning since each strike actually consists of 2 or 3 to upwards of 20 individual 'strokes' of electrical discharge. But, since they all happen withen a few thousandths of a second, it 'appears' to be only one bolt.

As far as being struck more than once..... Well..... If a person is dumb enough to let themself be struck once, they're probably gonna be dumb enough to give Darwin a 2'nd chance ☺

that's if you survive a lightning stroke ... now those are small odds.

that's not true ... lightning CAN strike twice at the same place ... just doesn't happen a lot.
