A century ago, it is estimated there were over 100,000 tigers in the world; now numbers are down to below 2500 mature breeding individuals, with no subpopulation containing more than 250 mature breeding individuals

As of last January, India which is home to 40% of the world's tigers with approximately 3,500 - so by now, approximately there are more or less 8,500 left in the entire world.

Due to conservation programs which includes tiger breeding, I assume that the number by now is more than the above gross calculation. As for the new census, India still has to release its census report by next year thus opting us to give just a rough calculation fo the meantime.♥

If I had to chose right now I believe the Angles and Mets will be in the world series. Both the Tigers and Red Sox have very good teams and could make it all the way to the world series, but the Cubs would be a long shot. If you are just asking about only your two possible scenarios, I would say the Tigers and Cubs would be a better choice than the Red Sox and Cubs.
