We geld ours at one year or less. Depends mostly we geld after fly seson ends and once they have dropped.
I have read some articles that say the sooner you geld the taller the horse will be. It states that the testerone will cause the ends of the bone to harden up faster and if gelded before the testerone starts flowing the bones ends stay softer longer and the horse will grow taller.

I think that's sort of a horse by horse type of deal--some colts are hard to handle even before they are a year old and have bad habits such as biting --if that's the case between 9months and a year-- but if they are mannered and easy going ?? I have waited up till the age of two --the reason was the breed and the want for more body size --so its really all in what you have in the mind set of the colt and the most considered reason would be what kind of facility do you have for him--you want a safe place to keep a colt that is coming of age--where he cant hurt himself and others--

It depends on what you want in the grown horse. As the colt matures, he will get heavier. I had my Arab-Akhal Teke gelded at four; he is a hunk. If he had been gelded at one or two, he would be slimmer and sleeker.
