Hi. Does anyone know how I can get around this without going against ebay rules? Basically I've sold an item that can only be collected and I stated clearly that I only accept paypal as payment. The buyer has now asked if he can he pay me cash when he collects it but would it be against ebay rules to do this? I don't know as I'm an inexperienced ebayer and I need an advice from experienced ebayers fast! Many thanks.

I'm not too bothered about receiving cash it's just that when ebay want to deduct their fees I won't have any funds in the paypal account to pay ebay. If the buyer pays with paypal then ebay can deduct their fees from the sale. Or do ebay deduct fees from my bank account?

The ebay communication links are there so that the customers and sellers can sort out such things. When you put payment only by paypal, you were telling potential buyers. If a potential buyer can't pay by paypal, they can ask if they can pay another way, and you can decide.
I have never sold on ebay yet, so I don't pay ebay fees, but my card is verified with paypal, and it doesn't need to have any money in the paypal account, for me to pay others, paypal claim the fee direct from my bank account. As Paypal is part of Ebay, I would imagine Ebay do the same.
But don't worry about it, accept cash and you will save paypal fees for the sale, and if Ebay do not claim money direct, they will tell you how to pay, or if you sell something else via paypal, the money will probably include enough for Ebay.

No. It's not against Ebay rules - since YOU are the Seller and THEY are the buyer - they follow YOUR rules!
Whether it's CIA, money orders, credit card payment, money order, paypal, etc...if you already had the "directions" in the body of the item listed, then you have nothing to worry about.
If ANYONE should worry it's the person who "bought" the item.
Why? Because in your Ebay description/payment you said that you 'accept Paypal as a payment' ....there you go. You said it, they agreed (by "submitting" their request) and that's it.
It's done and over with.

Again, it's YOUR item you are selling - not ebay's. If you choose to accept cash, money order, etc....then do it. But if you feel more comfortable accepting the Paypal account as payment - then stick to it.

Remember a couple things:
1) Whoever bid on your item has already read the desciption so he/she knows what they are getting themselves into.

2) It's YOUR item you are selling - sell it how you want!

Anymore questions or advice, feel free to contact me.

Good luck!

Cash can be accepted on collection, once the item has been collected mark it as payment received and dispatched. You should have logged your bank account with Ebay, so when the fees are due if there is no money in your Paypal account, Ebay will take the money from your bank account. It's fine and okay to do. If you accept cash on collection you are not paying the Paypal fees so you save yourself that money. Go for it.

Its not against the rules however it isn't advisable as Ebay will still take a cut from your bank account as they know you have sold the item if the fella confirms purchase by typing/confirming his/her price by clicking on the confirm button at checkout , make sure you have enough money to cover this, also be careful of strangers coming to your home not only could they be dodgey, e.g. a gang turns up and tries to take the item for nothing or for much less money than was originally agreed, he could also end up turning up with a cheque instead which could bounce, be very vigilant, always sell/buy items through Ebay for extra security, at the end of the day you can't trust anyone so be careful inviting people around your house to buy something, if unsure stick to paypal and hopefully another buyer will appear and pay via the payment method you orginally clearly stated, Ebay still take a cut from the overall price once the item sells weather its sold via Paypal, cheque or any of the other methods so ignore the silly individuals who are trying to make out Ebay won't get anything if you choose not to opt for Paypal, Remember checking someones feedback isn't very reliable as they often get friends in on the scam under other names to give them false positive feedback, its been in the papers about it,good luck!

Ebay can deduct fees from either paypal or your bank account. You could always transfer some money from your bank into paypal if you are worried that there is nothing in your account.

It obviously makes more sense to pay cash on delivery of this particular item, so don't know why you are getting so worried about it.

Take the cash.

I have been selling on eBay for years and have feedback of almost 1400.
Several folks have collected items in person from me and paid cash, there is no problem with it.

It would be different if the buyer wanted to send cash in the post, unless he sent it recorded delivery and you opened the envelope as soon as it arrived to check he had sent the correct amount.

A cash payment for a collected item would suit me every time. Paypal fees soon mount up.

Happy selling

Advise the buyer to send the cash first. This way you can put it in your bank account. EBay wont take their funds until the designated time frame they set up with you when you gave them your bank account number. Would recommend switching to a credit card.

Secondly, if you don't feel comfortable with this transaction then advise the seller that it was paypal only. If the auction is closed with the buyer with cash as the winner then you will need to file a claim with ebay. This way you can relist your item and get your ebay final auction charges back. Unfortunately, you are stuck with listing fees.

Didn't read everyone's answers however..don't send anything until you receive payment even if cash.
Re paying ebay...the fees are billed monthly and then you have an extra 10 or so days on top of that to pay ebay fees...so don't worry about that :)
I am sure you will sell another item to pay ebay when the bill comes in.
For more help on ebay selling...check out my me page on ebay :) Hope that helps...good luck! By the way I have accepted Cash twice..once from the UK!!! I was so nervous..but he insisted..so whatever...It arrived just fine.

Ebay Rules For Payment

2016-10-31 22:55:17 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Take the cash on collection - it is not against the rules and I have done this. It will also save you having to pay the paypal fees on the transaction which are extortionate - means you will make more profit. If your fees come out of your paypal account and there is nothing in there then it will go on your credit card or bank acccount whichever one you set up in the first place. I always have my fees put on my credit card.
