Yes - collar & cuff to keep it in good position. The healing can be speeded up by taking Homoeopathic arnica followed by symphytum. Once the bone starts to heal, you will be much more comfortable. Please try it - it really makes a difference & quickly too.

I work as a nurse in A&E and usually recomend that people use a broad arm sling ( thats the old fashioned looking calico triangular bandage type )
This is because it supports the whole arm inclding the elbow therefore putting less strain on the collar bone.Collar and cuff slings are OK but tend to let the elbow hang down. It's personal choice though.
It will be really sore for a few days. You can combine paracetamol and Ibrufen for max painkilling effect.as long as you are able to take these medicines and you follow the instructions for each one ( paracetamol 4 hourly , ibrufen 6 houly)
Otherwise relax and get other people look after you and give you plenty of TLC and sympathy ( that always helps)
Get well soon!!

Hi well you need to really get some collar and cuff this is another sort off sling made out off foam strips covered in material. You arm needs to be placed across your chest with your hand touching your shoulder, this is the best position for a fractured collar bone.Fractured collar bones can take up to 2 mths to heal completly thats as long as the bone in healing in the correct allignment. These fractures do hurt like hell, its a ackward area to fracture, and no plaster cast can be applied,so these fractures have to heal by them selfs.Just take it easy, rest when you can,try sitting up more when going to sleep prop some pillows under your bck and shoulder, take regular pain relief. If you dont seem to be getting better with pain etc go bck and see your gp,he may give you stronger pain relief only gps can give out.Good Luck

Tell me about it, it does hurt like crazy for a little while. Have u tried sitting up with cussions behind ur back ... in bed? Obviously u wont to be moving about too much while it is healing but whatever position u find is most comfortable for u then just remember to keep straight because as the bone heals back to normal, say youve been too squashed up, the bone may not heal straight. Its not going to heal completely straight tho if it was a fracture like mine however do try and keep ur shoulders back rather than hunched forward if possible. My uncle has recently broken his collar bone in 5 places....ouchhhh!!

I found the most comfortable position was to put the hand of the damaged shoulder onto the opposite shoulder with my arm across my chest using a high sling, hope this helps as i can still remember how much grief it gave me, but it should be OK in a few weeks the collarbone heals quite well but you may find you have a little lump where the bone has healed apparently quite normal.

Well I know how you feel I broke mine at the neck bone. So I learned that if you find a spot never move it. Because it hurts to much trying to get it back comfortable. The only place I found was put my hand up to the other side of my neck and let the sling hold it there. Good Luck

The best way to keep if comfy is to secure it in the position that is most comfortable for you. Often this is the position where your arm is bent across your chest in such a way as to let the fingers of your injured arm touch your opposite collarbone.

If this is comfortable for you then an elevation sling will keep you arm in place and take the pressure off your injured bone.

Support the wrist of the arm on the side of the break on the opposite shoulder bone by means of a soft bandage or sling.
Turn the body when required instead of the head.
Don't bend if you can lower your body with your head straight.
Clench the fist whenever you can to keep the muscles working.
Good Luck.
