It has had a good run, but do we endlessly need to point out when we have said something funny by not so cleverly placing a "lol" at the end of our statements. And most of the time the "lol" referenced sentence was not even mildly amusing, I hold reservations to the fact that the "lol" placee actually laughed out loud. So can we cut it out?

The problem with using internet or phone text to converse is that tone of voice and inflection don't come through. I think "lol" is useful to let someone know when you are messing around, and not to take what you just said literally or seriously... kind of like "j/k". I do agree that it tends to be over used... I know I've done it.

We do over use "lol" but we really need it. not only is it meant to show when we are laughing but its the only way we can be sarcastic and cleaver on line for example. " I dont know why I am so hooked on answering dumb question in yahoo answers" ..LOL!!! If I didnt add my little " LOL" after that you may think I am serious !
NO YOU CANT HAVE MY " lol" ....lol!!!!!!
How about taking " lmao " rotflmao " or what ever it is ! I actally think lol was fine now who ever came along and had to add "lmao" ( laughing my *** off) or " roflmao " ( rolling on the floor laughing my *** off ) or even " lololololololol !" needs to be hung. When did " lol" not be enough ...REALLY! lol

Dont pick on little lol....lets go after the big guns!
" help us all" we have nothing better to do"...LOL

I do not do this. I think people do it to ensure that the statement they have written in an email or an instant message does not seem foolish. I do not think that "we can cut it out" but I would like to"... great idea.
