Disadv - little buying power in the wholesale market. So you have to buy your supplies more expensively. No political power -- so little influence over decisions like planinng permission for new stores.

Advantage - flexibility, low overheads, can easily change what you stock when market trends change. Do not have to follow rules about employing disabled people etc. No trade unions. Easy to make quick decisions.
