i want to buy an amp and speakers whats it mean for speakers active or passive, i am looking at an old akai amp with 100w per channel so what speakers will this need

active speakers come in box's pre made including and amp all you have to do is give it power and input(music) for it to work. passive speakers need a source of power ie an amp or your head unit.for an amp of 100w per channel you need speakers at least double w ie 200w but I'd go for a little bigger say 300w so you can rinse your tunes out .enjoy.

Active speakers have built-in amplifiers.
Passive speakers need an external amplifier (such as your Akai).

Any cheap pair of speakers will be OK for an old amp like that.
