Hi, my wifey is 8mo Pregnant with our first child. Latley our Golden Retriver Puppy (1 yr) has had a huge intrest in sniffing her groin area. Can the pup smell the baby in her tummy? Thanks for the help.

Dogs are incredibly better at olfactory detection than we are. Nobody can really know what goes on in the minds of dogs, but I think your dog does know there's something different in your wife based of the changes of her smell due to pregnancy hormones . The body chemistry changes during pregnancy, it's guarranteed he can smell the changes but we do not know whether the dog can sense the unborn child. Who knows? Perhaps they could. Dogs are under research for its ability to smell cancer and seizures, so perhaps one day it will be another ability to be checked - ability to smell the unborn child.♥

I seriously doubt it can smell the unborn baby, but I am positive it has picked up on the hormonal changes in your wife- yes they can smell the hormones that a person gives off

I would think so. Dogs are very intuitive, and people have often said their dogs barked and growled at them (or sniffed them unusually) before they were diagnosed with diseases like Cancer.

This happened to my Aunty. She's a big dog lover and she came to see our new dog and the dog started sniffing her neck and face, then she started barking, growling, and generally acting quite distressed (very unusual for our dog. She hardly ever barks and she's incredibly good natured). Anyway, my Aunty was diagnosed with throat and nasal cancer about a month later.

So yeah, there's no doubt in my mind your puppy can smell the baby.

i think they are smelling the hormone change
my friend just found out she is pregnant, and her grampas dog, that will normally avoid her like the plague,is being a real sucky baby now, snuggling up to her tummy
i think they can even here the noise the womb makes as the baby is developing
