Yes, I agree with you. It is outdated and ridiculous to say the least and more about enpowerment than religion. It is also rude not to show your face when talking to someone. When in Rome.....

The Dutch don't just propose banning wearing the veil in public - this would extend to all facial covering. Full face crash helmets, masks, balaclavas, scarves around the face will also be banned.

It would not apply to all veils, only the burqa and the niqab.

Personally, I'm uncomfortable about banning things, but there is some sense in requiring people to be identifiable in public.

Presumably, it would be inconsistent to ban the burqa in public on national security grounds, because you want people to be readily identifiable, and to also oppose compulsory ID cards, which might also help identification of people.

These things are never simple, are they?

It does seem strange that if I walk into a bank, post office and several large shopping centers in this country wearing a motorcycle crash helmet, I will be asked to remove it on the grounds of security, but that if I wear a burqa I can stroll around to my hearts content completely unrecognisable. I'm more than a little surprised that it doesn't seem to have occured to gangs of thieves what a wonderful opportunity for disguise this fashion accoutrement represents, let alone muggers and suicide bombers. Still, so long as the sensitivity of our faith different cousins might be offended, we are unlikely to impose any ban on this particular fashion statement.

Probably because of the Bush/Blair love affair which has left the UK at a higher terrorist risk than the Netherlands. I don't have a problem with the veil except in teaching....children shoud be able to see the teachers face, they are learning everything at that stage of life, eye contact, facial expressions, body language...be it all subconscious... Darth Vader and Star Wars...

Be Patient a Little Longer -- They Will, simply because the Muslims are continually Pushing their Luck by ever Increasing their Demands - Demands for this - Demands for that , Offended By This - Offended By that , the World is Growing Tired and Weary of this Non Stop "Unreasonable" Behaviour

I have mixed feelings about this subject and always have. Being American, I was always taught that religous freedom is one of the most important things in life. On the other hand, I am terrified of people who conceal their face. It is just an instinct I have. It can pose a problem with security in the U.K. I go visit my boyfriend in England every few months, and I am starting to be afraid of traveling back and forth because of recent events. Needless to say, security in the U.K. is a big issue to me, and I think that people should feel safe in their own country.
