Muslims in the Netherlands have criticized a government proposal to ban Muslim women from wearing the burqa or veil in public places.

Dutch Muslim groups say a ban would make the country's one million Muslims feel victimised and alienated.

The Dutch cabinet said burqas - a full body covering that also obscures the face - disturb public order and safety.

Is the proposal an attack on the Muslim faith or a move towards greater tolleration and integration ?

Yes, they have every right to condemn such a law. What a person wants to wear is up to a person's personal choices, as long as it levels to decency. That country is violating rights to religious freedom. No one has any right to interfere into other people's faith's.

I hadn't heard approximately this. There could be a solid reason - the Dutch are ordinary for their tolerance. i'm hoping you get some smart solutions. i in my opinion do no longer think of that the burqa is comparable to wearing crosses, or orange robes. that's a cultural component, no longer a non secular one; Muslims from Pakistan, as an occasion, do no longer positioned on it. that's often a barrier to integration; consistent with threat it particularly is why the Dutch have banned it. Headscarves, on the different hand, are a call for of the Qu'ran, I comprehend, and Muslim women could be allowed to positioned on them.

I'm going to disagree with just about everyone here.
It has nothing to do with religious freedom, but rather is a concern for public safety.
It's my understanding that the burqa is a personal choice made by a woman as she gets older (except among the extremists).
The ban is for ALL face-coverings....anything that could obscure your identity.
The burqa, especially, could prove to be dangerous. You can't see who, or what, is underneath it. And it could very well start being used by men (or women), with explosives strapped to them. With no one the wiser.
No, I'm not paranoid. It's just a sad testament to the times we live in now.

I agree with the other two answers, religious freedom is a cornerstone of a free country, pursuing ones religion is a right given by their god and as we find out even in a totalitarian society such as the old Soviet Union there were still people that kept the faith. China has a contingent of Christians, even though the government frowns on it. So my answer is yes they do have a right to protest this law.

No. They do not have to wear the burqa for religious reasons. The burqa is a free flowing outfit. They could hide anything under it. Certainly not all mosques require women wear it. This seems to me a more radical sect.

Why is it that Muslim can speak up about things like this but won't speak up against Muslim terrorists? I am sorry but I have little sympathy for them.

The women have the right to pursue their religion and if clothing is part of it, then it should be up to the women to choose. I am not concerned with what the women wear. What I am concerned about is what the Muslim faith is all about. It is the ONLY faith that preaches killing, Jihad, total conversion. Read the Quran and see for yourself. We are in the middle of a war with the Muslims so who cares what the women wear?

Today Burqa's tomorrow it will be crucifix's and yarmulkes. Religious freedoms must be upheld no matter what religion they are.
