It is not now that money is getting important. From the time immemmorial money had always played an important part.
We have been worshipping Goddes Laxmi from very early days.In the days of Mahbharata it was a cowardly act to reject an offer of betting. Why was this custom.? This was simply to legalise gambling and betting and give it a social status.
It is because of the media that things are highlighted now.
As a democracy matures the money power flexes its muscles andwealth tends to start concentrating within a few rich persons.The poor will become poorer. People will need money to survive and fulfil their minimum requirements.The have little time to think about relationships. Development will throw luxery goods and in a lure to have them all because my neighbour has will leave behind all relationships. Hence with more and more democracies upcoming wealth will play a central role in influencing people.
Democracy thus becomes for the rich , by the rich and of the rich. But people will have freedome to criticize the rich and the people in govt and permit the political parties to exploit the poor people every four or five years.
