My problem is that one of the rooms of the house i just bought is freezing, while hte other rooms get lots of heat. The old man that had the room before had the room completely empty , and presumbably never used it. I assume he cut off the heat to that room. Its now the girl's room and i need to know how to get the heat back on ( I dont want to pay someone to flick a switch if its that simple )

Number one: you didn't specify what kind of heat you had, that could be a big problem.

If you have radiators, you simply have to turn the butterfly valve at the top of the heater open while holding something (an ice cream pail will do) under it, let the water pass, while the pump for the furnace is on, then as the air/steam comes out, close it.
If it's forced air: There could be a large flapper or closure in the heating duct going to the room, in the basement, that must be closed, open it.
If it's baseboard heat, again water type radiator, there must be a valve that's closed.

Whatever or however, there has to be a valve, closure, something that's restricting the heat source, find it, correct it. Or, pay to have it done.

You may want to check the ducting between the heater unit and that room. It could be leaking, or it may have been intentionally disconnected since the previous owner did not use the room. I'd also check the windows in the room; it sounds like the house has been around for a while and they might be letting colder air in through the seals.

He may have had it like my room in my house (In New England!). No heater at all. I bought a fake fire place, and love it. It has heat controls, it looks like a flame, but is not. But you should follow through on the guys above, before doing, mine.

Remove the vent. Bet you'll find cardboard or a rag stuffed in the vent line.
