hello all. before i ask my question i want to make something clear so that i am not misunderstood by anyone: i enjoy teaching. i think that it is wonderful and i am very passionate about it. there is no feeling like that of wonder and understanding when a student finally gets it. i'm currently an undergrad and i'm planning to make teaching career in the future.

but i'm also a practical person and money really is important esp in singapore where costs seem to be rising every second. (eg GST hike from 5% to 7%) what i like to ask is this: does the salary for teachers increase every year? if so what is the rate of this increase? and in your unbiased opinion, is the pay scheme fair? the moe webbie doesnt tell me anything about pay increment and i would really like to know.

i hope that i dont come across as someone who thinks about money all the time. practicality is the driving force of this question and i would really appreciate it if you guys can help me out.

thanks all!

Hi, increment is about $100-$500 per year depending on your grade and what kind of degree you hold.

If you perform really well when you graduate and start working, you are entitled to receive a bonus during march.
But of course, it's subject to whether you perform well during appraisal time.

If not, you will just get a small bonus during july and a bigger bonus in december.

The pay scheme is fair if you are a degree holder.
The lower your education, the lower the pay is, but the amount of work that you do is the same as everyone else.

So take it from me, if you're still studying, make sure that u study real hard and aim for 1st class honours or something even better than that.

Boss, If we didn't know about our History, we cannot keep our Tradition. Tradition is the most valuable think. if we follow our Tradition, 1) We can get new ideas, 2) We can make new relationship together, 3) We can maintain our honesty, 4) we can modify our lifestyle. If we don't bother about our history, then why we need to keep military, police and law. Anyone person can come here and live here. that is not a country. So every Country Have one History. The country should maintain the history must. Then only the growing youth can understand and follow our Tradition. If the youth Follow the Tradition, They will grow with full of National Audit. If the Valuable national audit Can make the New Preciest Country. So The Government should add the History topic in primary & Seconday School Syllabus. If one person Determine His life (path) Style, He will See Any Example Person. Then only, He can Produce himself with more Effective. If military or Police Man Should have the Model person. The Government Should (Celebrate) encourage the Police or Military persons Achievment. All The Achievments should be record. The Records should be Add to the History. The current History Should add to the School Syllabus. This is the way to Feed our Country Essential & Tradition to our Growing Youth. Thanks

If you are going for money (or being practical about the real world), teaching is not a profession that brings in big bucks. Yearly increases there will be, how much will depends on the economy factor. I'm in a profession that doesn't pay accordingly to the time/efforts I put in, but I have great passion for what I'm doing and I enjoyed doing it. I'm happy.

i'm not sure wat the rate of increase is, probably a few hundred a yr..a teacher with ranking such as the HOD and senior teachers also get slightly higher salary..it also helps when u have a good evaluation as u'll get a higher bonus and promotion faster..
my parents have been teaching for about 25-30 yrs and they are getting abt $5000-6000 a mth..but u ought to know tt their pay started at less than a thousand as tt's pay for 30 yrs ago..
