I think I understand what your asking. Now that Democrats have control of congress and if the next election is successful for them.. what will happen? I don't know that answer, but hopefully the next two years will have brought Iraq the independence it needs to govern and protect itself form the insurgents. So that if we do pull out more aggressively all of this wont have been for nothing.

I'm here. At least, I think so. I used to think I was a Republican. But then the President I voted for twice started doing things differently than I would have done on every single issue and doing a lousy job explaining himself when he made a mistake. What does the Republican Party stand for? It used to be ethics, stand on your own two feet, and fiscal conservatism. We are going way overboard on the second one and did nothing on one and three. We are spending and spending into oblivion. And we thought that we could just do anything we wanted and the chickens wouldn't come home to roost.

Where are all the Republicans? That's probably what all the voters in the last election wanted to know, too. Since they couldn't find any, they decided to vote for the other guy.

We got what we deserved last week. Hopefully, this will kick us in the pants and make us look to what we really are supposed to be.

As for Iraq, we didn't go in there for WMD. We went in there to start a democracy in the middle of the middle east hoping that democracy would spread elsewhere like a virus. I thought that was a good idea once. Boy, was I wrong. Let's face it. A foreign power cannot go into a place and start a democracy from the top down. It has to begin with a cultural shift and start from the bottom up.

The cultural shift will take a generation at a minimum in Iraq. Do you want to stay that long?

People aren't in the streets screaming for democracy over there. They don't know what it is the way we do. We had two hundred years and tremendous autonomy and no one lording over us in our little colonies before we decided to throw off the yoke. And we had democratic institutions in place for that two hundred years before the Revolution. And then the king came along and wanted to lord over us a little more. That wasn't going to fly by that time. The Iraqis never had that. But we thought that within every Iraqi is a "freedom loving" democracy understanding American screaming to get out. What were we thinking?

The only reason to stay in Iraq is so that little dictators don't walk all over us like they did after we cut and run in Vietnam. But maybe we should just cut our losses, leave Iraq to the Iraqis, and see what happens. If the worst happens, we can always blame it on the Democrats.

First off, unfortunately (no matter what party is in congress or in the executive branch), the executive branch ultimately controls military action.

So what I am saying is that even though the Democrats have control of the House and Senate atm, Bush can still have his war in Iraq no matter what they say. Wanted to clarify that for you because of your statement 'start pulling all of our troops out of Iraq before some kind of resolve is accomplished'.

You see, Congress can't pull them out. The president, as Commander in Chief, unfortunately only has that authority.

With that said, your question has a few problematic areas.
- 'before some kind of resolve is accomplished' ?? Saddam is out of power, Iraq has elected government officials, Iraq has a constitution, Iraq has an elected president, Iraq now has a trained police force. Are you suggesting that we babysit them while they conduct a civil war now?
- Now, don't get me wrong... I, personally, just like Pelosi and others have stated also, do NOT want to just pull the troops out abruptly. You seem to be confusing some of the statements made by some democrats. Honestly, the only democrat that I know of that wants to bring the troops home right now is Kucinich. All others, including myself, are just saying 'hey lets make some deadlines in an attempt to force the Iraqi government to take more responsibility.'
- And btw, deadlines aren't written in blood. These deadlines are just guidelines to put pressure on the Iraqis to take over. I mean seriously, we have been there going on 4 years and now there is a civil war... we have got to make some changes.

My biggest fear is not pulling the troops out, but cutting funding and putting our troops in further danger forcing us tho pull out before the job is completed. While the executive branch controls the military, Congress controls the money. 57% of people polled do not think the Democrats have a plan for Iraq.

Another fear that I have is that they will take away the tools needed to fight the war on terror such as the NSA surveillance of terrorist phone calls, and aggressive interrogation techniques.

Islamic extremists want to rule the world. they want to kill the infidel. that means anyone the does not practice their version of Islam.

It,s a scary world that we live in, and if we are not careful, we're DEAD!

Not to worry. Last I knew Republicans controlled the executive branch, including the Pentagon. Next month, Bush will review the report of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, and the report of his State Dept and executive agencies. Although Congress can exert pressure, Bush is still the decider.

Don't you love it when Americans are called Nazis? I do. Especially when the Neo-Nazis are coddled by the Democrats because it is their "freedom of speech" to hurt people of different races.

Anyway, we are all still here, and I'm not worried. There aren't enough of them to do too much damage. But they will do enough that they will lose more seats in the next election than they gained in this one flipping the power back to the people who really aren't power hungry. You didn't see the Republicans bashing Dems in this past election (at least they didn't here in Texas) the way the Dems bashed them. They took the high road knowing that if you "give them enough rope, they will hang themselves." Not to worry, this mess will be fixed in 2 years when we hold the House, the Senate and the Presidency once again.

The republicans are all in their closets hiding their heads in shame.

The democrats will not execute a wholesale retreat from Iraq. They will work on new strategies.
