Hi. This is to those who have recently sent their ucas application or who are familiar with it.

I'm applying to Uni through UCAS as an individual since i already left school but don't understand completely the first section: COURSE

I have got the institution, course, campus codes etc. Since i want to start next year 2007, wouldnt ticking defer mean that the course starts in 2008? What about home, do i need to tick it? Lastly the point of entry, what is it i need to put in there?

I'd appreciate a very informative answer.

hi there! just to let you know i filled out a UCAS application form a few times so i ought to be familiar with what i should advise you to do so here goes:

home, you need to tick- but ONLY- and i stress only if you are going to live at your parents house or whatever, by the time you are in university. you just mentioned you want to start the course in 2007, and so if you tick 'defer entry' then yes you're absolutely right it would start in 2008, but afterwards or before that, you MUST notify or contact the university and tell the admissions people at the uni that you want to commence the course in 2008. the deadline by the way for deferred entry for courses through UCAS is august 31, 2007. if you choose accept the offer made by the uni, for 2008, it means you won't be able to apply in 2008 as you would nornally do- unless you decide to withdraw your application by september 30 of 2007 that is.

point of entry is only for if, for example, say you are about to do the second or final year of the same course but at another university. and so because it don't concern you, you should leave that blank. usually, you'd write the number 1, 2, or 3 in the box which would denote the year you are starting the course.

i got all this off the UCAS website, i'd urge you to go on it and read the information yourself. i hope all this advice i have given to you helps. i wish you well with your studies!

You can scan the reference onto your copmputer, send an e-mail to UCAS or whoever you want to send an e-mail to and use the reference as an attachment, loads of people are having trouble with their UCAS applications so Kent University are doing a workshop thing at their Medway campus. Why don't you go on their website to ask for advice? Best of luck

don't tick defer. tick home unless you are not a british resident and point of entry is usually 1 - ie first year although some courses have year 0 and others allow entry to year 2 or 3
