one of my plug outlets was short circuited(is that a word?) like, 10 months ago. I think that's what happened. Iwas vacuuming and my 3 year old son took a fork, and tried to pull the vacuum plug out with it. THANK GOD the fork had a plastic handle - I don't know what he was thinking. Scared the s h i t outta me! Anyways, I rent, and I still haven't told the landlord about it. I'm afraid he will try to charge me lots of money to fix it, or bring out an electrician, and I'm too broke to have to pay for anything like that right now. How much would it cost if an electrician had to fix it? Who's responsibility is it to pay for repairs? Would the electrician be able to tell how it was shorted(by a fork)? I haven't used the outlet for anything since that happened. Also, when that happened, 5 other outlets in the house stopped working properly, and the kitchen light no longer comes on. I've already reset all the breakers and such. Lamps, alarm clocks, TV's flicker and go out, if Iplugintooutle

I am an electrician and a landlord and according to your renters rights the landlord is responsible for any and all repairs to the dwelling. As an electrician I can tell you that it is probably just a blown circuit breaker. If there is a fuse panel in the dwelling look for a breaker(sort of like a switch) the one that has been tripped should have a little window that will have a small red flag in it. Switch that one back to off then to on and that should solve the problem. If it has the old screw out type fuses then look in the little glass window and see if the little piece of metal inside is broken if so go to a hardware store and have a salesperson match one up for you. They are really inexpensive.

in case you have fuses, you may oftentimes see that the fuse has blown with the help of this is darker shade on the glass face and the silver ingredient interior is oftentimes visibly broken. replace this fuse with a sparkling between the appropriate amperage. All fuses are marked with the amperage. this is going to be the two a 15 or 20 amp fuse.this is risk-free to unscrew the blown fuse and screw the hot one in. be certain that the lamp which could be inflicting the undertaking isn't plugged in. in case you have breakers only flow to the breaker container and activate and stale all the breakers separately while you're uncertain which one has became off. It appears like your new bulb or the lamp itself is incorrect. If it nonetheless blows the fuse without the lamp plugged in you better have an electrician verify it out for you. stable success

I'd suspect a tripped breaker or a blown fuse. Check in your panel to get the circuit working again. If you're still having a problem, talk to the landlord and explain what happened. He may get a chuckle over the whole thing.

For the time being don't plug into that outlet.

You already know which circuit breaker operates that receptacle. You can buy a new receptacle for a couple of dollars and change it yourself. It is just a matter of turning off the breaker to the receptacle and removing the cover plate and two mounting screws and transferring wire for wire from the old to the new and assembling in reverse order.

the landlord should take care of that ,no questions asked. but if you are still afraid just get one for about $1 and have someone who knows the basics of electrical change it for you. i'ts like a 5 minute job, if the wire is still good.

A new outlet costs about 2 dollars but you should find a friend that knows alittle about it to change it for you. We don,t want mom to get a buzz.
