Dear First of all Remove all unwanted S/W then Shift ur data from desktop and my Document to another Partition(if u have only one partition then create a folder on C Drive and shift ). Because when u start Ur PC all files load in Ur desktop and my doc
and it takes so much time.
and now if u have Win Xp or Win 98 use MSCONFIG utility and remove programs which is not require in start up like MS office and winzip (Program installed in program files only)

These steps will help:

1.Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and run it once daily before shutting down your computer. It removes all the trash files that are created while surfing through the net. Use its Issues section once every 2 weeks to delete all the unused registry keys. If you have a lot of Auto Start entries, then you can remove them from its Tools>Startup. But keep the important ones like firewall and the real-time protection shields of your anti-virus and anti-spyware.

2.Keep a decent anti-virus, a strong firewall and two anti-spyware in your computer. Always keep the real time protection shield(or resident shield) of the anti-virus and one of the anti-spyware active. Update them and scan your computer once every week with both the anti-spyware and once every 2 weeks with anti-virus. I have given the links to some free and good anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall; get them all:
AVG:
http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/set...

AdAware SE:- http://www.download.com/ad-aware-se-pers...
SpyBot Search and Destroy: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/spy...

Comodo Personal Firewall: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/d...

Never keep two anti-virus or firewall on a single system. If you are already using a good anti-virus or firewall, then you need not download the corresponding one.

3.Keep a virtual memory booster as an auto-start entry. It frees the clogged RAM. I use RAM Booster, which is very effective. Here is the link to download it:
http://www.download.com/rambooster/3000-...
After downloading it, follow the steps:
*.Cilck on Edit>Options and tick the follow options:
1.Set auto optimisation on
2.Show CPU usage
3.Start minimised
4.Launch automatically at start up
Also, increase the auto optimisation level and 'Mb of RAM to free at auto level' as per your requirement.

4.Keep at least 35% of your C: free. Transfer all the music, image and video files to other drives.

5.Defragment your hard drives(especially C:) once every month. To defrag, go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Defragment.

All these will most certainly speed up your computer. Good Luck!
:-)

you could try these
1. download and install spybot search and destroy. its free. just search the net. run it to find malicious programs that run in the background.
2. conduct a full system scan of your pc. be sure that you have the lastest virus definition update
3. download and install ad-aware se personal edition. then conduct a full system scan.
4. uninstall all programs that you are not using.
5. run disk clean up utility
6. if your pc is still slow try defragmenting your hard drive.

If u r not using programmes installed in ur PC u first uninstall them it will definately work. Check for updated antiviruse & clean disk if u found virus. check if any programme is there in the startup. U can check by msconfig command, Remove such programmes which are starting when u start windows. OK

Run a virus check on it if you haven't done so recently. Then run the disk cleanup utility (located in System Tools under Accessories), and defragment the drive. That should help your computer out a bit.

This is where the rubber meets the road, what will you spend to keep the running programs and what will you sacerfice to keep a smooth running computer? More RAM or remove software that runs in the back ground..
