The European nations (and others) have looked into circumcision and found that it has no merit. They found that males do not need surgery for hygiene or disease control any more than females do. Sweden has never had widespread circumcision and their STD incidence is 50 times less than the US, (and Swedes are not sexually repressed either). The European doctors are capable of treating the rare problems that might happen to an intact penis without cutting, perhaps we should send our doctors over there to learn how; but then our doctors wouldn't be making as much money if they couldn't just cut, cut, and cut.
Circumcision was introduced to non jewish America as a cure for masturbation, which the puritanical Protestants saw as a deadly sin. They also applied acids and caustic chemicals to boy's parts to discourage "touching themselves". The Europeans don't share this culture of repression that has gripped the US because the religious radicals (the Puritans etc.) left Europe to settle in America.
BTW Sweden has now also banned the circumcision of children.

its a customary thing. Little boys should look like their daddy's. So they circumcise the child. Health-wise it doesn't do much with or without the foreskin. The hospital and doctors make some money out of this. This procedure is often done by interns so they can practice surgical procedures.
The debate is, will it cause cancer or std and about sensitivity.
Majority of other countries do not circumcise men, we in the USA have been due to old tales of diseases. Also the Jews are circumcised because of religion.

The US is always a bit behind the times with these things.
They also have more lobby groups.
If the US govt tries to ban it, as they should, there will no doubt be marches in the streets claiming it is their right to circumcise their children if they want to.
There will be people going on TV quoting biblical passages to backup their God-given right to circumcise their children. etc etc etc.
In the end, they will just say that it is not an advised procedure, and leave it to the parents.
There is no valid medical reason for pre-emptive cicumcision of either males or females.

Americans really do need to be educated. The ONLY time circumcision should be performed is if there's a medical problem and it HAS to be done. Really, the only downside to not having it done is it's a little harder to clean, but really how hard is it to convince a boy to play with himself in the shower every day? Of course, it costs the parents money to have it done, so the doctors will tell them anything they can to get that little bit of extra money.

Do they still circumcise people...on this day and date...in the USA...a country that tries to teach other countries about human rights? I am from a third world country called South Africa, and although the practice takes place here from time to time, it is frowned upon by decent people, because it is kind of cruel and barbaric...Scary ****...no offense....I have learned something new....and I am shocked....Poor American boys.

Likewise in Australia, a lot of younger people in Europe have the word cruelty that comes to mind with the issue of male circumcisions. Unlike their parents who did it for tradition, most feel it is barbaric and not needed. (Sad isn't it?)

Its a birthing doctor issue. Or,how about this answer? American males have longer penises and are prone to drag them in the dirt so being circumcised keeps them cleaner?

Because Europeans are not all that concerned about the health of their mans bits. It has been medicaly proven that circumcised penis' are easier to keep clean and they do not get some of the opertunistic infections that uncircumcised one do.
As a school boy we went to visit a mate in hospital and he was there for a circumsicim.( I took in a porn mag for him to read). He showed us all what his infected penis looked like and I have to say that was thirty years ago and I thanked God then that I was cirmusiced and vowed to get my boys done. You know what my son only gave out a bit of a wimper when he was done. I think he was lucky because it looks as if it hurts, but as the saying goes, "no pain no gain". I believe I would be irrisponcible if I never had him done.

It's sort of a tradition over here in the US, and they say it's healthier.
Other countries have a more objective view on the issue and aren't as dogmatic about it.
