The man who recorded it is Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole from Hawaii, in 1988, and is available on the 1997 CD "Alone in Iz World." I just did a google search on e.r. over the rainbow and it popped right up. Amazing thing, google.

It was used in the films Meet Joe Black (1998) and Finding Forrester (2001) and in the ER episode "On the Beach" (May 2002) of Dr. Green's death in Hawaii, seen by 50 million people.

when i was 16 / 17, me & a friend used to love singing karaoke in the local pub. we used to sing cheesy 80's pop songs - like Venus by Bananarama. lol. and yes, we were usually drunk at the time. it's amazing how many things seem like really good idea when u are drunk. we were never that great at singing, but there were loads of people who worse than us. i think the only time we truly stank at it was when we attempted to sing 'La Bamba' by Los Lobos. we both knew the tune, and we thought we knew how to make it sound like we knew the words (it's all in spanish !) but once the video prompt got going, all we could do was laugh ! the words on the screen looked nothing like how they sounded. it's been a while since i've done anything like that. i don't have the confidence anymore to get up infront of an audience and perform like that. by the way - u haven't told us about your Karaoke horror stories !
