It's so terribly hard, and to be honest, you won't ALWAYS be happy, however, you can be happy the majority of the time.

In your mind, you have to shift your cognition. When you begin thinking negatively, recognize the negative thought, acknowledge it, and then realize that YOU are in control of it. Diminish it.

Look at your life, and find just one example of happiness- I am certain you can do this. Once you do, build on this.

Not to be a downer, but consider how much worse of a situation you could find yourself in- starving, abused, homeless, terminally ill, and so on. I will admit, I struggle with trying to avoid sadness and maintain happiness, and I do believe it's helpful to stop and think, "You know...there are people who will die before I finish this thought because they have nothing to eat...I am in a fortunate position."

Sometimes, it even helps to surround yourself with this sort of sadness, and by this, I mean, volunteering at a center for the homeless, or an elderly patient facility, or an animal shelter- anywhere that you can give help to those who are very much dependent on your good heart. I can almost bet that for some inexplicable reason, you will find yourself becoming happier without even trying, because good hearts are simply happy on their own.

On a personal note, when I am very depressed, I like to consider that though I may not have everything I want or be everything I hope to be, I very easily could. I start planning out how I will go about accomplishing what it is I want in my life, and having that sort of control is so empowering. It's almost impossible to be sad when you gain focus and perspective.

I hope this helps you, somehow. I know how great of a struggle it can be when the sadness or pain is overwhelming. Please stay hopeful, and know that you are VERY capable of surpassing those sad feelings!

It is very difficult to lose a job. Besides the financial problems, you have feelings of being unwanted or not good enough. You also will face a big change in not going to work at the same place and seeing the same people, many of whom are probably friends. You have good reasons to feel sad, and it would be abnormal if you didn't. You are taking a very positive approach in looking for a new job and thinking about going back to school. Try to look at this as an opportunity to improve your life. In a few years, you will probably look back on this and see that it was a good thing that happened, although it does not feel that way now. Good luck to you.

No one that I know has ever always been happy. Happiness comes from outside yourself, the things, events and people around you.
You can get bad surprises just as easily as getting good ones.
It seems easier to see the sadness in life because there is so much injustice in this world.
But Joy comes from within yourself, it is something no one can ever take away. YOU can keep it or give it up.
Look at this ASK site, people you will never meet will care enough about you to take the time to really care, that should give you joy because there are so many good people and great things out there.
I have had sadness most of my life but it has gone hand in hand with my joy.
Find that place in your heart where you have peace, where you feel safe and where you feel loved.
It is easy to get sad, it is more difficult to look for the joy but it is worth the journey.
My joy comes from loving and serving a great God who loves me enough that I can't help but feel blessed and joyful that I am loved by Him.
Peace to you and God Bless You

Actually, two fold way - One, always count your blessings and you will find that you actually have a lot to be thankful for. Two - try and identify what is it that is making you sad - and then evaluate how important the issue is in the overall scheme of things. Will if affect you, say five years from now? Will something that you are finding earth shattering today, be even remembered by you five years from now? Also, if you are apprehensive or worried, just imagine, what could be the worst case option - what could be the worst fear? Then, anythign that happens would be definitely much better than that.

It's almost immpossible or we can say very difficult to remain happy throughout the life, because life is full of ups and downs. But you can remain happy majority part of your life by firstly, taking no tensions at all. Because life is very small, and enjoy its every moment. Secondly, do the things which u like the most, like i love music and i can't live without it. Last, but not the least, do the work u do whole heartedly and the good results will keep u happy, but don't u dare take tensions at that time.OK

Always remember that we are visitors in this world, we can die any minute, life is too short, we already waste 30% of our whole life while sleeping, why waste more time being sad? we cannot change or just delete the problems in our lives, we have to live with it and learn to adapt.
