If you live in an apartment, you should notify your manager. I know that is not getting rid of it yourself, but for the rent you pay, you should not have to. If you have concerns about humane traps or that they simply shouldn't use anything toxic on the animals that might also poison YOU, then you can mention these concerns to the manager or landlord as well.

Animals: I suppose you could call a mouse an animal? Unless you have real skinny "other things" where you live this is all it could be unless it's rats.
This is a job for the landlord or building maintenance, unless of course they're coming out at night into your apartment. If this is the case then put out Decon in several places, this will kill them..

Not really unless you are looking to get bit or hurt, contact local animal control. That animal got in there somehow. So when you get the critter out, you want to make sure you get no more guests. Also they will release the animal(s) humanely!

You'd be better off calling animal control or a pest control service. Check your lease--you might not have to pay for it if it's something your landlord is responsible for taking care of.
