Whew. Good luck with THAT.

I suppose the primary argument for him NOT to be the NATIONAL hero (but a hero nonetheless) is that the guy was basically a pacifist. He didn't agree that a violent overthrow of the spanish regime was the solution for the country's ills. He clearly shows this point in his books Noli/Fili when the guy supposed to represent him actually argued AGAINST rebellion with the rebel leader. His argument was founded on both the low probability of success as well as the ends NOT justifying the means.

One can even argue that his books could NOT actually have fueled the bulk of the masses since a large part of the population at the time could not read and/or have access to his work! So that a critical mass in the number or percentage of the population could not have been 'riled up' by him.

Being that Spain was also at war at the time against the US, however, what motivation his book and martyrdom actually provided seemed to have been enough -- against Spain, at least.

They positioned rizal as a hero extremely of the kali-gun professional bonifacio to regulate the filipino human beings minds through imposing to their brains that a hero could not wrestle the authorities with swords or guns. filipino could wrestle really through the flexibility of the pen, could not wrestle back and could be shot on the back. it fairly is why they have the fashionable peoples power. a cold revolution. although the questions nonetheless continues to be, is it sucessful? did it come to a call the poverty and corruption of the goverment right now?
