I went to the bookstore yesterday while I was at the mall and picked up about 4 different books. 3 of them are books by Chuck Palahniuk and the last one is the book '1984' by George Orwell.

I remember someone suggesting it to me once after I had finished reading George Orwell's other book 'Animal Farm'.

I haven't started reading 1984 yet since I still have half of one of the Chuck Palahniuk books to finish before I move onto the next book I choose to read out of the 4 I bought.

It does seem like a really good book and I have been told so by a handful of people, I was just wondering what you guys thought about the book if you have ever read it.

So, if you've read it: How was the overall quality of the book? Was it the kind of book that you just didn't want to put down or was it just an option when you were bored? Was the book enjoyable? Did it make you ponder things (e.g. life, government, 'big brother', etc.)?

Thanks in advance.

:)

Firtst of all - you ROCK. Chuck is the only modern author I read, and if you liked his books, you will LOVE 1984. Try to think of it as a far more sober exploration of the same themes.

1984 is on my top 5 list of "must read" books. It will stimulate you, fascinate you, and bother the hell out of you. There is one chapter that will resonate with you forever.

I studied the book '1984' whilst I was in high school (in the year 1984). It is a good book, but one thing it does well is make you think. It gives an insight on what it is like to live in a totalitarian state, albeit an extreme version of one. Makes you appreciate the value of a free society.

Animal farm is also another extremely good book - reinforces the theme that 'all are created equal - although some are more equal than others'.

1984 is a classic, yet very timely.... frighteningly so, in my opinion
