I am stuck in this predicament with no help of any kind.I have become disabled due to many medical problems. 1. I am Homeless 2. I am disabled due to multiple medical disabilities. Now here is the problem that I and many vets. have to deal with. I have gone to the homeless coordinator in Fayetteville Ar. VA Med center. For the first 60 days he directed me to the 2 Salvation Army's that house the homeless for 30 days then they have to leave. I, as others have gone to the homeless coord. at Fayett. VA med center along with all the Social workers seeking help for homelessness and the problem of being disabled and connot work. I am directed by these soc. workers and the homeless coord. that there is nothing they can do and that I have to sleep on the street. It seems that the only homeless veterans they can help are the ones that are employable. This seems to be backwards if I could work I would not need help but beings that I cannot work I need that Help, not sleep on the streets.HELP

What you might try to do is address the problem of why you can't work. That would be a start.Being that you are disabled, you should qualify for SSI disability. As a veteran you should also qualify for other assistance. However, no one is responsible for housing you unless your disability is so severe that you can not take care of yourself. So, you can gain financial assistance and even subsidized housing. But no one is going to just give you a place to live.It is up to you to seek the financial assistance and then look into housing options.Temporary housing, however, may be the only option you have until you are able to gain the financial assitance you need. And so, shelters and other short term housing may be your only choice right now.

yes I see that problem all over and I am sorry that our gov. doesn't help, Here in the Northwest is pretty bad, But I do know that for people that have disabilities/vets there are some housing programs/ as usual there are hoops and red tape you would need to go through, but maybe a different location will help you. If not maybe a church can help yo, I wish you the best, and all the disable vets!!!

I think I just wrote you about how to go about getting your service connected disability. Get on that first thing.

Next thing go to your local Social Security office and put in for emergency disability insurance payments. You paid for it while in the service.
Take as many of your medical records as you have about your back with you when you go. Make sure the doctors says you are unable to work because of your condition.

Here is a hint. Try to get a black Lady there to help you, because a black lady will fight a lot harder for you and help you a lot more than any one else.
