Beowulf. Its got everything; action, adventure, romance, a great plot, and a dragon or three. The Odessy is similar, and has all those mythic gods.

Or maybe The Princess Bride. That's a modern fairy tale. And who can resist that movie? "Humperdink! Humperdink humperdink humperdink!"

If you're thinking "short and classic" then my favorites are The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor from 1001 Arabian Nights because of all the amazing things he sees, the Norse story of Tomtegubben and The King of Trolls (brave Tomtegubben went down into the Mountain King's hall!), and the Brothers Grimm's "How the Devil Married Three Sisters" because I am constantly amazed that each sister was sillier than the last, but the final one got them all out of such trouble.

Finally, I love "The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnall" because the age-old question gets asked.. would you rather your bride be beautiful by day and a hag at night or vice versa... and Sir Gawain answers with the most loving and respectful answer possible. "It is your choice, my bride." Just thinking about that makes my toes curl. This tale appears in many cultures in many forms, but makes it no less splended.

I love fairy tales, so this is really an incomplete listof my favorites, but there you have some.
