I go to an all girls school now, and I have to say it all depends. Firstly, all girls schools are private so it's very likely that the academic levels are more challenging than average. I think that this pushes students to take harder courses anyway. However, it's normal that people don't take advantage of this and not try their best. There were times where I didn't care about doing well so I didn't.. but I always get the feeling that most people at school ARE serious about succeeding (which could be good or bad depending on your own situation). But I think that once you get it in your head that you want to do well, it's easier to find people to seriously study with, and teachers do seem to really care, once you notice it. I'm not saying all girls would do better at an allgirls school-- there are exceptions (some of my friends left cuz not going to school with their guy friends bothered them enough to not try to do better in school). It's also very easy to get boy-crazy, but you gotta keep in mind that people know people and get to know people through connections, so it's not like we're totally separated from guys-- although I know being at school WITH them would be very different.
I've found that being at an allgirls school gets really difficult (especially bc girls can get freakin annoying) but I think it's helped me do well. If I were at a co-ed school, it's obviously very possible to do well there too. But for me, being at an allgirls school helps me focus more because I think there's generally more pressure to do well and not care as much about what other people (i.e. guys) think. What it comes down to is how serious the individual is about school, regardless of what kind of school it is.

It is obvious to me that this makes a difference. Guys are definitely a big distraction, but I think it also depends a lot on schools. For example some co-ed schools in foreign countries are very strict on discipline. There is proper uniform for boys and girls. Their interaction is also observed. Now compared that to US where first of all there is no uniform, girls and guys wear ludicrous clothing. Sex is prevalent on school premises and not much is being done about it.
So yes I definitely think that distractions are too many and it is not good for America's future because these children are suppose to be studying!

i'm not sure cuz i go to a mixed school but i say that it's the same thing cuz what u said about craving boys maybe true but it might be better cuz some boys won't be able to bully girls and guidance counselors won't have as much problems and girl secrets can be shared without worrying about the boys. I don't know about academic terms though.

I went to an all girls high school and found it a great place to gain leadership experiences and make friends. It was a great choice for me. I think I did better with math and science than I would have in a co-ed environment. I have read magazine articles that support this experience as being widespread (not just me).
I did not have much difficulty later adapting to a co-ed college.

All I know is that humans are more competitive with the same sex. So in an all-girls school, they would more likely strive to do better than their peers. An intuitive answer would also be that with boys around, girls would get distracted, but that is pretty much concerned with the girl's responsibility in her studies.

That's not really true in my experience. Guys provide a competitive environment in my school and we work hard to do better than the guys. Also, it would be better and healthier to be in a mix school in my opinion. I had 6 years of Pirmary school education in an all girls school and a total 5 years of Secondary and now Pre-uni education in mix schools and I find that girls cope better when they enter college if they have learnt to interact with boys in their schools. And some of my friends who were previously from all girls schools have kinda lesbian, weirdo behaviour.

The research shows that girls are more likely to develop intellectually among other girls. Not so much a boy crazy thing, but more of a status thing about not looking to smart.
The research does not support similar findings for boys though.

i've studied in co-ed schools all my life, and i've done quite well i think. in my pre-u college, quite a chunk of my cohort came from single-sex schools, thus find it hard to mingle naturally with members of the opposite sex. this creates difficulty in class bonding. but, yea they are quite smart. this can be proven by the percentage of high-ranking single-sex schools in my country, which is super damn higher than the percentage of high-ranking co-ed schools.
i guess single-sex schools create a sense of eliteness??? like they cater to onli one sex and they can't be bothered with the other half. haha..
