Meaning that they actually shop at places like Walmart that are chains. Small businesses cant compete with evil corporations like that and therefore go out of business. I know Walmart is cheap but I think America needs to take a stand and not shop there for the greater good of mankind.

It is called free enterprise. Yea, it sounds nice to buy from the little mom and pop shop down the street and ignore the big stores. But the real answer is that we are in a changing world. Now some big stores say buy from us, not the internet. Time is comming where 80% of all merchandise will be bought on the internet and next day delivery will be the norm. Thats progress. If you like the old way and think pushing a plow all day and milking cows by hand is the answer. There are Amish communities that do just that.

My wife and I are both disabled. We both worked very hard but now live on a small income from disability. I am a disabled veteran and a proud American. I do the best I can to buy American made. Both of my cars are American made. But the small stuff, I can't afford to buy at the small local owned places. Walmart has hurt the smaller stores I know, but at the same time, for some of us, the fact that you can do everything in one place is a life saver. I don't want to be considered unAmerican because I still buy household things at Walmart. I fought for my country and do the best I can.

When your making under 40,000 grand a year and have a family of five to provide for with two children entering college in the fall you cut corners where you can. Yep I will shop at the smaller storer for the good of mankind and let my children starve in the process. Or go on Welfare so I can afford to shop at the smaller stores.
NO sorry not going on Welfare. Living on a shoestring budget and surviving even if that means shopping at walmart.

The last time I went to Walmart, some woman was robbed of her purse and the employees didn't do a damn thing about it, plus while I was there they charged a good 500$ for a fridge that was identical to a 200$ fridge in another store, so you can imagine I picked the better deal... I'm never going to Walmart again.

Everyone is looking for a bargin. As long as Walmart continues to show themselves as a bargin to the consumer, then they will continue to shop there. Sure they have some policies in which we all do not like however you have to admit they are making it pretty tough to resist. They are continuosly coming up with new ideas that are marketable. I recently found out that they do price comparison, not many stores offer this. They are also getting rid of their layaways, which caused a great deal of problems for consumers. I caused the stores to always be crowded. Let's face it many people hate Walmart and they are everywhere, the only thing that could put them out of business is more lawsuits and even then they have money to keep from going into debt behind lawsuits. Whom ever is their marketing team, they are darn good.

Sure, it's easy to take a stand when you don't need places like that. When you get paid so little that making purchases can be a juggle of which one to make.

I tried to never shop at big chain stores, but when my husband's career took a down turn, and our state's (Michigan) economy tanked, I tried shopping there. It takes my little bit of money and makes it go farther. The local stores can charge almost 40% more for products. It would be nice to support the mom and pop stores, but it's just as nice to know I can still support the family I have.

Thanks President Bush and the Republicans.

While wal-mart has a lot of negatives their prices are holding down inflation. I know exactly what your saying though. Given a choice, I go local. In my neighborhood I get coffe from the locals, the Starbucks next door is crap. The locals put out way better coffee. It seems like Starbucks would have the quality thing licked but they don't. Their consistancy is bad. Trouble is, the cost is about the same.

Well most people who shop at Walmart don't have a lot of money, and thats one of the only places they can afford, I personally hate it, they aren't organized, a lot of their stuff is just junk, when they run out of something they dont buy it again for a few months, I just don't like it. In my town more people buy stuff from small businesses, because we just like them better, but I do have to say I do shop at target sometimes, but most of the time its just for like flip flops or make-up.

wal-mart is the closet thing to self suffiency this country has seen in over 200 years.did you know they offer grants to people to open business in those strip malls that are located there next to them?wal-mart doesn't carry everything and do everything.if you have good head on your shoulders you can survive well right beside them.we have for over 15 years and a good deal of our referrals come directly from wal-mart.theres a lot of mis-information about them but,i attribute most of that to scorned workers who wanted a pay check but, didn't want to work for it,and those labor unions who want nothing more than to spread lies in hopes of getting their foot in the door.i know lots of people who have retired after as little as 15 years at wal-mart and they are doing well with their investment in the company.
so the next time you want to accuse people of being sell-outs why don't you point your finger at 50%of our elected officials?

You cannot stop globalization. It's happening in every country in the world..not just America. You could either try your best to make it work for you or throw a violent protest at G8 summits.
