We always decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving or the 1st weekend of December, depending on work..I love Christmas time and all but we have to have time for Thanksgiving/Fall Decorations also..Then we take them down on Jan6th..well the specifically Christmas ones...Winter isnt over until Mar/April so leaving some winter associated ones up until then doesnt hurt.People decorate with spring oriented wreaths during the spring etc so why not a winter wreath for winter?

It used to be considered vulgar to "rush the season." Nice people did not start until the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest. Remember that before artificial trees and boughs, if you started more that 2 weeks before Christmas your decorations were looking pretty ratty by the big day. And they were getting to be a fire hazard. I would say any time between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve depending on your own family's traditions.

to my surprise, I started seeing Christmas lights almost two weeks ago! Yet in my opinion, any time after Thanksgiving is an appropriate time to begin decorating for Christmas.

We usually do it about 2 or 3 days after Christmas, that way all the triptofan from the turkey has left our systems and we can actually work.

I always like to go blitz shopping the Friday after Thanksgiving, then go home and decorate.

I have always heard, and followed, the general rule of thumb that it is the weekend after Thanksgiving! This way you can go to the 'crazy shopping day' the day after Thanksgiving and get all the stuff you don't already have!
Have fun ...and enjoy Thanksgiving first!
:)

Thanksgiving evening usually an hour after everyone eats... if they're awake. Or decorate before you all eat.

I already started--then my hubby glared at me and told me to at least wait until after Thanksgiving. Soooo--I just got a few snowmen sitting around.
