Jakarta actually have some tourist spots such as Monas and many statues. However, most people would not feel comfortable with the extremely hot, humid, dry, and dusty weather, not to mention the traffic. As an alternative, Bandung, the capital city of west java, has relatively better atmosphere. You can see most of the dutch architecture on their buildings. I would prefer Bandung as my tour destination

For shopping tour, yes. Jakarta has so many shopping malls and each of them are in big buildings. Only that you have to prepare about 1~2 hours for the traffic and beware of your belongings.
Some tourists spot such as National Monument, Miniature Park, Joy Park are also attractive. Jakarta also has a lot of museums.
I would say yes for Jakarta, but maybe for a short trip. Bali island is more attractive.

Jakarta is a business and administrative city. It has little appeal as a tourist destination because of its terrible pollution and traffic. Yet, it you don't mind bustle and chaos, it has some awesome nightclubs and restuarants. The area around Glodok is sin city and if you like to party hard, it's worth a weekend trip. The city has some wonderful restaurants. My favorite is Dapur Babah with its Chinese Indonesian antique furniture and excellent food.
The city does have some fine architecture if you make the effort. Gedung Arsip (The Archives Building) dates from the early 18th century and has a display of antique maps. The old Batavia Town Hall is one of the finest colonial buildings in South-East Asia and the buildings near Kota Railway Station (including the station itself) are some of the finest modernist colonial architecture in the world (again in a very run-down state.) There are also some beautiful Dutch villas on the streets to the south of Monas including the National Library.

For me..Jakarta is more suitable for business trip since it's the capital city and many corporate headoffice located in this city..
But if you'd like to have mall tour..jakarta is the best destination since there are many of high buliding and cool mall here...Jakarta is a metropolitan city..
Otherwise, if you wanna spend your time to see beautiful scene..know bout native culture..Jakarta is not really good option for tour destination..

Jakarta? Yes I like. But not as a tour desitination. But to meet up with old friends, as I used to work there.
Java Island has many good places to visit. So, as a spring board to others place for tour and travel, Jakarta is good. Other than that, it is hard for me to see that as tour place.

I find that Jakarta is improving with its cleanliness. But they badly need to improve there transit system, and of course there pollution. If a person could travel around Jakarta faster, it would be a much more pleasant place to visit.

It is not really a tour destination, for it's an extremely busy city full of vehicles, people and buildings! I suppose that there would be no time and space for touring there!
And if you may be Indonesian:
Ya itulah Jakarta, dari dulu memang seperti itu. Biar gimanapun, tempat itu tetep kampung halaman gue.

I would only travel to Indonesia if I had a real strong desire to be a victim of some terrorist attack or some random violence against Christians. No gracias pendeja!
