always better to be positive

It's possible to be realistic and also think positive. Thinking positive doesn't mean that you must ignore the possibility that things can go badly. It just means you focus more on the positive sides than the negative ones.

If you're diagnosed with cancer for example, you can think positive and think about the chance that you might get cured or that at least you could make the most of the time you have left without ignoring the possibility that you might die. An optimist will focus on getting cured and using the time they have left and the positive attitude helps them cope with the illness. A pessimist will keep thinking they're about to die and lose all hope and be miserable and the negativity sure doesn't help them through the hard times.

Of course there are unrealistic optimists too, but you don't have to be unrealistic to be positive.

Yes, it's realistic.
In ways, it's probability. You failed once, odds say you must succeed sometime.
In others, it's hope. Something to let you focus on until your hard times are over.
But does that matter? If you are happy with what you have, why fret on getting more? Not happy with what you have? Keeping a negative eye on it isn't gonna fix anything. Mise well just be happy with it anyways and save yourself the trouble.

Yes, and in my experience you usually get what you expect to get, so positive thinking leads to better results than negative thinking.

Yes and No...

Yes: If no one thought positive, this world would be miserable.

No: If everyone were positive, we would all be miserable.

You need the bad to enjoy the good. Classic dilemma.

Like all things (such as sarcasm) moderation is best, but please don't stop completely. Bad can be good. ;-)
