Because they just love love the whole universe so much and want to get to know it. You could always go back for a second degree!
To understand is what we were meant to do and the world is a beautiful and wonderful place. Physics is the first and natural love between the human inside and world outside. It starts when you're a baby and you learn how things work in this crazy new world you end up in. Some people like to stop learning about it at 5 or 10, some others love to keep learning as much as they can about it. That is physics to me.

Why are they so cool? Because they just are. If you have the time you should check out some of Richard Feynman's autobiographies. They're not really science-related, but he gives some funny anecdotes about his life as a physicist (like how he taught himself safecracking while working on the atomic bomb at Los Alamos, much to the chagrin of his superiors ;) )
He's hilarious.

Thanks! A well-known scientist wrote, "All science is either physics or stamp collecting." Physics is what gets down to how things really work. Why are physicists all nice? Humility requires me to inform you that this is an anomaly of your observations. Unfortunately, you'll find all kinds of people in all fields. If you want to be around nice people, steer away from crime and politics. But that shouldn't steer you between physics and biochemistry.

Studying physics is above all having a clear and logical head, to be open to new ideas, ready to review some accepted concepts, to put themselves back into question, to deny prejudice that false the views and results, to never just "believe", but search for the facts. Finally, to never be sure of anything and never take anything for granted.
With this state of mind, a pure "Vulcan" logic, there is no need for anger (a waste energy), or envy (a waste of mind), or war (a waste of time)... nor any "bad" feelings as such.
You will also realise that the best way to deal with others is just to be... nice!
Look at everything and ask the questions "Why is it like this?" and "How does it work?": you will have no more time in futile quests and plenty to do.
Even another degree in Physics!
