no no not the depo shot that is bad. it makes people gain weight and has been linked with all sorts of bad things from gaining 15-30lbs, reduced bone density, heavy irregular bleeding, some are lucky enough to have reduced bleeding, moodiness, depresson, decreased sex drive google it for more. if your breast feeding (which is really good for baby and you and recommended by the world health orginazation for first two years of babies life.) you will have less options for birth control. but also breast feeding in itself can be used as birth control for up to 6 months (note it is not highly effective for all women but it is for some women... there is much debate about it where some women swear by it and others do not). although to use it as birth control you have to do something known as feeding on demand. you feed the baby when ever it wants, not on a schedule, you never ever use any bottles and you don't pump or supplement with formula... as doing those things will change hormone levels. but if you want something else to go along with that there is the mini pill also effective while breast feeding. (regularly combination birth control pills cannot always be used while breast feeding as they can cause a lack of supply) there is also the two types of IUD's which i have read lots of good thing about. there is the Mirena and the copper t. the Mirena is very effective and suppose to be better than other IUD's in terms of bleeding problems. obviously there is the option of condoms, and diaphragms and cervical caps. although diaphragms and cervical caps become less effective after you have a baby. there is also something known as oves... they have to be ordered from france though as they are not approved in the USA.... which is not a big deal in my book since we are behind European countries in many medical things invovling women's health. i included a few links on the diffrent IUD's the oves and the mini pill. good luck.

Congratulations! I know it's not easy, but what is that's worthwhile? Good news, you can't get pregnant while you ARE pregnant, but you probably knew that. If you don't want to take 'THE PILL", it can be risky. I, personally used birth control pills for many years with no harm done. I have been told that the safest and most effective birth control is a combination of a female Gel, Foam, etc. used with the male using a condom. Loses some spontaneity, but you can make it part of your "special" nightly routine, and if your new baby leaves you with any time or energy to do anything else! Good luck, you're blessed, and enjoy your new family.

In the words of Bob Barker
::Help control the pet population. Get your pets spayed or nuetered::
LMAO! Of course I'm kidding sweetie. Let me clarify that before someone gives me a thumbs down. Abstinence is always the most effective obviously. But you're not going to do that. I'd say use condoms and the sponge inserts. Condoms and oral contraceptives. Condoms in addition to anything else is always better. Even pulling out in addition to another form of birth control is more effective than any ONE thing alone. Yanno what I'm saying? Double up! ;)

After the baby is born your best bet for contraceptives is going to have to be a personal decision. The best method for you depends on how often you want to take it, how able you are at remembering to take it, how long you want the effects to last (how soon and/or do you want another child), are you breastfeeding, your health, ect.
Its something best determined by talking with your doctor- ps a good one should ask all these questions- and maybe even your husband since the family size choice does have a part to do with him too.

I think the best is the depo shot and i don't care what people say about it. It worked fine for me. I was on it for 3 years until i wanted to get pregnant. I didn't gain weight or go crazy or anything bad like how some people talks about it.

If you are married and already pregnant what do you need a contraceptive for?!!?
And if this is for after the baby is born, I would say ask your Dr.

If you use the birth control pill as directed, it is about 99.8% effective. Condoms are about 97%, but are harder to use correctly. Having your tubes tied (tubal ligation) is also 99.8% effective. Not having sex...100% effective, but not any fun. Good luck, or in the case of getting pregnant again, bad luck!
