In Washington state it likely depends a great deal on whether they embezzled from Microsoft.

There is a statute of limitations on most things except murder!

The statute of limitations is held in abeyance, or stops at the point a person leaves, and starts again when he returns.

If a person was wanted for a crime that had a 7 year statute of limitations and he left on day 365, it would stop until he returned to the state and resume at day 366!

yes it is safe to return. Only a few crimes have no statute (Homicide and Kidnapping are examples), but I'm pretty sure that embezzlement has a limit.
