Seriously. The vast majority of morons who watch MTV are uneducated, primitive simpletons who believe that sex is the ultimate goal in life, education and intellect is for nerds, and that rap is an art form.
If MTV told all these morons to go live naked in Alaska and survive off of berries and sprouts, about 94% of them would.
Do you think anyone would even KNOW about Darfur if it wasn't for MTV and Myspace?
If these vapid fools really want to do something "good for the world", they would concentrate on serious injustices on the home front (ie: the War on Drugs, poverty, disease) rather than focusing on "My Super Sweet 16" and especially "Yo Momma".
When did people choose such lowbrow entertainment?

I like you. Speaking of homefront, hey MTV like, totally cares about current issues. Remember Puffy's "Vote or Die" [fiasco of a] scheme? Between the Laguna Beach and the Super Sweet 16 shows, IQs drop nationwide everyday because of this fodder. It makes me wish that Darwinism was still in some kind of effect. I'm 22 and no where near settling down but it's stuff like this that makes me never want kids just so I don't have to deal with a whole new generation having to fend off the dregs of humanity's ceaseless war on common sense. Few other things in life can make me that livid and deliriously amused at the same time, and I'm not commending them for that.
P.S. Thank you for the proper grammar and spelling. It was refreshing.

Maybe it's my age (34), but I don't remember being all that much interested in the world at large when MTV was age appropriate.
I think MTV just focuses on what is happening out there in a young pop culture. I remember liking, or knowing about some of things that MTV covers. There just was not the "push" to televise it. It would be nice to see them balance out some more of the fun stuff with serious concerns, but MTV's VOTE really helped to remind a younger crowd to get involved.
When you are between the ages of 14 and 25, life should not have to be 100% serious all of the time. Youth is pushed away from kids very quickly now, and having an outlet for fun pop culture is great. I hope MTV keeps itself around for my son, who is 12 years old right now, when high school/college age.
Not all watchers of MTV are idiots. There are always going to be a few, I can picture them from my youth right now. Besides, my husband and I love the show Parental Control. We like the idea of picking your child a different date when they pick the wrong one. It's every parent's fantasy! Not every waking moment of my entertainment has to come from NPR and the History Channel.

What ever works is what MTV is going to do. Until a large amount of people say enough is enough they will keep playing what they play because they are getting ratings and getting paid.
Um...who's Darfur? what's Darfur? I'm on MySpace and I watch MTV when I'm bored and I don't know who or what "Darfur" is. Is that a band or something. Sounds like a band name...
My Super Sweet 16 is retarded. U just wanna punch the kids in the face and say, "You're turnin' 16 for cryin' out loud! You still can't do anything!"
I don't think if MTV just told ppl to do stuff they would do it unless it was to buy a product. For someone to move away or something like that they'd have to get paid...like the ppl from "The Real World".
MTV is just doing what popular. Once rock becomes extremely popular again then people will be complain on how ppl think heavy metal is an art form.

ok I am a smart person, all my classes are high honors and I dont do stupid stuff like jump out windows, but I do watch mtv because I just can't help it. My friends and I always say how pitiful it is that we watch Laguna Beach but it is so addicting, all I really watch is that and the music videos when I'm getting ready for school in the morning, but MTV does have the commercials and stuff to tell you how to help save the enviroment and to tell you to be safe and no matter how scared you are to get an HIV test, they have shows about other countries in poverty and stuff like that too, because those are major problems we have in the world today, but I do see your point on that stupid Yo momma show, and stuff like that. But MTV and stations like that do help kids stay kids a little bit, I mean in 4th grade we didn't have recess anymore because we had to much work to do, in 7th grade wehad to figure out what colleges we wanted to go to and what we wanted to do, in 8th grade we learned how to balance a check book and what to do when we get a credit card, and this was when we were 13 and 14 the world today is pushing kids to much to grow up, sometimes I wish I was born when my parents were born because I hate the way a lot of the world is today.

I watched MTV in the 80's when they actually were playing music videos that were entertaining but I never even look at it now. Isn't it mostly game shows and reality shows now?

MTV isn't even entertainment anymore. It was good in the 80s when they played actual music videos (when videos were cool!) but now it is just a waste of air time. I don't understand why anyone watches it anymore.

Most are young teens watching TRL and some horny teen boys waiting for spring break and summer bikini clad females. OR Real World's infamous hot tub scenes.
