The greatest batsman of all times of the world and also Australia is undoubtedly Sir Donald Bradman. Ponting is a specialised batsman. Gilchrist is a specialised wicket keeper who is also a good batsman. Ponting is therefore the better of the two as a batsman. Records also say so.

Ricky Ponting as he has scored more centuries and runs in Tests as well as One Day Internationals as compared to Gilchrist. More over, Ponting is more steady and accomplished batsman as compared to Gilchrist

I would say Ricky Ponting. Only because Gillchrist is a bit less patient. He is a cleaner hitter of the ball than Ricky.
