You might have a virus or spyware. You also could have issues with your hard drive. if you right-click on a link, and choose "Save Target As..." and save it to your desktop does it then reboot?

If so, get a hold of another computer, and download the firefox web browser. Install it, and then try to download. if it works fine, then you know it's an issue with the Internet Explorer or a virus/spyware.

You may have a CPU overheating problem. Often, on comps with some age on them, the heat transfer pad (or the paste) stop doing what they're supposed to do.

If you're comfortable inside the box (be careful about static discharge), see if you can safely remove the heat sink from the cpu. I don't care for the pads, so I carefully remove them, polish up both metal faces, and put a "thin" layer of silver paste on the cpu. When I place the heat sink over this, I twist a little bit to get a good seal; then secure it.

I recommend opening every machine once a year and cleaning out ALL the dust from everywhere, and re-doing the heat sink paste.

It really depends on what your downloading. Some legit programs will require a reboot to complete installation. If you are down loading mp3s or videos and it happens, then it may be due to malware. Scan the computer for viruses and spyware just to be sure.

Your computer is either very slow and has no space at all for anything to be saved or you have a lot of viruses. Go to www.microsoft.com and download "Windows Defender" and scan your computer for viruses.
