Absolutely. No doctor could or would perform a procedure on you baby without your written permission. You can talk to your OB doctor before you deliver and tell him you do not want the baby circumcised. In some locations the OB doc does the circ. and in other places, the pediatrician does it. You should choose and interview a pediatrician before the delivery, and tell him /her that you do not want a circ. for the baby. After delivery, someone at the hospital may still ask you if you want to sign a permit for the circ., just decline it. I am an R. N. and worked in hospital nurseries for over 25 years. Many parents do not have their son circumcised. Hope all goes well in your pregnacy and delivery.

This is absolutely a personal choice in the states........only within the past 45 or so years have the majority of people in the states made it an issue to circumcise for health reasons.

Yes its your choice to have the baby not circumcised. If they ask you and you say no, its whatever. I've heard the mother actually chooses whether the baby is circumcised.

Absolutely! I have 3 sons and NONE of them were circumcised, much to my parents' dismay. I would encourage you to ask your pediatrician what their attitude is toward it, because so many U.S. doctors (including urologists) have no clue how to handle uncircumcised penises - if there are any problems their immediate solution is circumcision. We have been VERY fortunate that our sons' doctors have been so supportive of our decision and knew that forcibly pulling back of the skin is not advisable - that it happens slowly (but surely!). None of our boys have had urinary tract infections or any other problems so many people insist are caused by being uncircumcised. (In most European countries less than 1% of males are circumcised and they do NOT have increased rates of the cancers U.S. doctors say are connected to uncircumcised penises.) Obviously I have researched this issue - but I felt the need to since so many Americans seem so grossed out by penis au naturel!

Good Luck!!!

Absolutely!! In USA we have what is called a "patients bill of rights" and in those rights it states that you have the right to refuse any treatment or medication, the right to be informed of your choices and choose your health care providers. Circumcision is considered "elective surgery" meaning you have a choice.

No you don't have to have him circumcised if you don't want to. They ask you if you want to before they do it. You have every right to say no but if you do they may try to pressure you into changing your mind. Stick to your guns. If you don't want it done then don't do it and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise or make you feel badly for the decision you have made. And if they do it with out asking or do it even though you said you didn't want it done hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit.
