I totally feel for you! I had irregular periods for up to two weeks at a time but only every few months until I got pregnant 4 years ago. Then I didn't have a period at all due to breastfeeding until 11 months after I gave birth. Now, every several weeks (5-8, it varies), I bleed for weeks (longest was 5 weeks) until I go to a doctor and get medication to make it stop. Then it stops for 5-8 weeks and starts up again, same thing! :( The way I bleed sounds just like you--it comes and goes over the course of a few days--I'll think it's stopping and then bright red blood will come gushing out like I'm a stuck pig.
All this irregularity started 10 years ago when I went off the pill after being on it for 5 years. Before that, even as a young teen, I was 100% as regular as clockwork.
Birth control pills do some really wacky things to our systems, so that could be the reason you're having trouble. Or, it could be something like a cyst. If your period doesn't stop within a week or so you really do need to go see a doctor. If they can't solve it within a few months, you need to see another one. I'm gearing up to get another opinion myself--this time I'm going to a clinic in Boston at Tufts that specializes in menstrual disorders.
Good luck, you're not the only one with this kind of problem!

One version of The Patch was taken off the market after it was found that women using it were getting 60% (I think) more estrogen in their body than women who used oral contraceptives. This, I believe, is because The Pill goes through the digestive system and therefore filters the medication before it enters the bloodstream, whereas the Patch allows the hormones to enter the body without any filtration. Women who took it found that the hormones were remaining in their bodies long after they stopped using the patch.
There is a lawsuit about this. Do some Google searches. In the meantime, talk to your doctor (or call the pharmacist for FREE) about the negative effects you've been experiencing.

Hmmm, done a bit of researching for you and it sounds like the birth control patch you were using is known for its nasty side effects, one being blood clots.
This legal webpage is taking class action against Evra....

I remember being told when I had a similar problem, that I should take blood thinners, but perhaps looking into some herbal remedies might help too.

if you can, go on the pill for a few months, it sould like your hormones did not get back to normal after using the patch. The lower dose hormone in the pill may help you.

i might count type 28 days out of your final easily era. The bleeding you experienced after combating the pill became into likely what they call a "withdrawal bleed". yet, there is an threat which you will no longer have your "suitable" time table returned for yet another few months or so. given which you basically took the pill for 6 days nonetheless, optimistically your physique will return to commonplace greater without postpone.

I would do some more thorough research on the patch. I heard that it isn't good to go on it. You can probably look it up on WedMD. Its a good site and will tell you everything you need to know, good and bad.

I would suspect that your hormones are trying to get back into balance. But you may want to go to a clinic. They are free/or very inexpensive.
