project any money? Is this fence ever going to happen? Or was it just a bunch of blow to distract US citizens from that nasty word: AMNESTY?

No it's just a bunch of blow. I don't think they mean to give amnesty, either because then they wouldn't be cheap labor. ie. no more $2 per hour off the books, but rather minimum wage. I predidct no amnesty. There is soemthing very wrong with this country.

The fence makes no sense! Why not put military on the border? Makes more sense to me. Even if there is a fence, what is to stop them from digging under it? Finding ways to go over it? Around it? We need more enforcement on our borders and in our ports. Should have been the first order of affairs after 9-11! Why have we waited so long to do so little? Until we get serious about the illegal problem we are going to be sitting ducks for every terrorist in the world to come over our borders and blow us to the next century. We need mass deportation until we can find out who is in our country and why they are here. The last free thing any illegal should ever get in this country is a free ride back to the border! They should not be allowed in again if found here illegally!

Surprised?- Are you kidding??! When was the last time our government passed ANY bill that included the $$$ to pay for what it proposed? That stupid wall was the quickest, cheapest, and most obvious thing they could pass- to be able to show the American people that they're doing something! And with the Election now over, you can be SURE that nothing more's going to get done until at LEAST 2009- when the NEXT administration is stuck with doing something about it. In short, enjoy the fence.

Personally I dont want the damn government in my pockets anymore to pay for this. The idiots had a really good working program in the 50s called the bracero program(guest workers) that worked really. Of course the but holes didnt renew it. Bush has wanted and amnesty program from the get go. And all of you anti illegal immigration foes, will you finally admit that it is not really a illegal problem but it is about the illegal mexicans. Stop trying to be politically correct in that regard. I will have more respect for you when you admit the damn truth.

Amnesty is not an acceptable solution for the millions of illegals who have overburdened our social services, comprise more than 50% of the prison population, lead the population in meth and crack trafficking, wreak havoc through gang activities and send home so much US money back to Mexico that the cash flow makes it the number 2 cash source for Mexico.

Deportation, increased diligence in security and returning those caught without possibilty of return legally is the only way.

it was all just politics. it was political parties trying to fire up there base. no surprises here. check back and see what this congress has done the last six years. not much.

Susan is wrong. the funding WAS passed..... sort of. they only passed enough funding to built it. first of all, the bill was for a 700 mile fence to cover a 2200 mile border??? what is with that?? secondly, they only funded half of the fence??? this congress is a joke.

Only time will tell. People are very interested in illegals crossing now, so I would guess that the government will drag it's legs until people start calling for the heads of politicians, then they'll start work on it. Hopefully by next year they will have made more progress.

The funding for the fence was passed. I bet it will be voted against spending it in January when the new Congress convenes. Then we won't even worry about borders or speaking English. We'll be busy funding everything to be multi-lngual.

This is what it looks like in places that the fence is still up. There are many places that have no fence at all and you can just drive across.
