Does anyone out there have any ideas other than the reading the GMAT book and attemtoing the questions and the GMAT pratice questions?

Really, really important is for him to practice *on the computer*. Taking standardized tests on paper is quite a different experience from taking it on a computer. GMATs are currently tested on the computer. He'll have to get accustomed to answering questions without being able to underline sections, etc.

If he can get to a practice course, people find that very helpful. Frequently, the companies let you simulate the test on a computer there.

GMAT books are great. Discipline is very important in any of these tests. Remembering time limits. Learning how to focus. (For this, breathing exercises are great.)
