I wont spare the details.

Out of anger at me, one of my cats peed on my keyboard bag. Of course, I need that bag to carry my keyboard to various practices and gigs. Also, since I was away on a trip, I did not discover that my cat had done this until maybe about a week later.

The smell seems to have dissapated, but I am not sure how to go about cleaning the bag without ruining it or making a horrible mix of smells. This is some very thick material, about blanket-thickness.

any suggestions on how to clean the bag and get the smell out would be GREATLY appreciated. Help?

let me make this clearer:

it was a KEYBOARD BAG that was peed on by my cat. NOT the keyboard, NOT a blanket (it has blanket-like material). The keyboard was NOT in the bag at the time of the peeing.

I would do what shecatdevil suggeted, but in the mean time I would put it outside on a day it`s not raining and let it air all day when possible, and sprinkle baking soda in the bag this will kill alot of the odor
I`m really not sure why ppl are so excited about the febreez it only mask the odors for a little while. I would want to know my things were clean and not just masked.
Have you talked with someone at a crycleaners to see if it`s washable and then airdry it?

keyboardist here...my wife's cat ripped the covering of my amp to shred. I have the fuzziest amp on stage. Luckily it hasnt peed my gig bag. However, my gig bag will absorb cigarette smell from various venues. My wife insist that I put dryer sheet inside my gig bag to reduce the stinkiness.

They do make stuff like Shout spray. Let it sit then wash the spot out with a damp cloth. Baking powder should also neutralize the order but it will turn your nice black gig bag a powdery white.

I'm not sure why people are so fond of Febreze. To get the smell of urine out of textiles, go buy as much white vinegar as you'll need to thoroughly soak the item. You can get it at the grocery store for under a dollar a pint. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which will dissolve the urine and allow the dried wastes to rinse out in addition to killing the bacteria that are causing the smell.

Now, you're going to ask me, "doesn't vinegar have its own pungent smell?" Yes. Yes, it does. But simply airing the blanket will dissipate the vinegar smell, whereas that won't work with urine. As you've noticed.

First unplug it then pop out all the keys and clean it with a clorox wipe or something like that, then clean each individual key and put them back in the keyboard. Perhaps you should cover your keyboard and anything else so this doesn't happen again. I spilled soda on mine once and amazingly it still worked. Good luck.

Get some clean and wipes at the drug store. and clean the inside of the bag, and blow dry it . When it is dry open the bag and put a bowl of vinegar inside, leave it somewhere the cat wont get at it, leave it overnight or for a least 3 hours. It should absorb the odor.

Fabreeze is a temporary fix. Cat pee is a hard smell to resolve. I have a perfect suggestion for you!! Try Sol-u-Mel......you can't buy it in the stores (I can get you a bottle of it). It will eliminate the cat odor leaving your bag nice and fresh! Throw an e-mail at me and we can arrange to get one to you!!! Don't be mad at the cat....he probably just smelled smothing on the bag and got excited!!! I can help...just let me know!

There is a product you can buy at pet stores, it's called Nature's Miracle. I keep telling everyone about it, especially those who get the Febreeze answer (it doesn't work that well by the way). It is expensive but it works, read the label, it truly is as the name implies.

Unsure how to get the smell out, but to get even with your cat, I suggest you take a dump in his litterbox.

Fabreze spray and you can get some stuff at the pet shop that will help too.

Have cat neutered.
