You want to know why? It has nothing to do with you (girls) and everything to do with their male peer group. They are posturing like so many peacocks. But, not to impress you...to impress the other guys.
Young men value what other young men think of them. They are not mature enough to know who they are and so they try to find themselves in the reflection of what others think of them. At an early age, they don't care very much about what girls think of them, but what their guy friends think is crucial. They need to be accepted into the tribe.
Ignore the tribal scene. Seek out guys that don't need or want that kind of nonsense. The older you get, the more young men you will find that don't need the tribe to be a real person.

Because being mean makes it easier for a guy to just do it with a girl and then not to take responsibilities for their acts. When your men with someone usually it's supposed to be because this person is worthless. So being mean with someone helps those guys feel like they don't have to take any responsibility towards girls because they're worthless anyways.
I Know there can be many other reasons...
But I think this one is recurrent

sometimes girls are such an easy target for them because they cant handle the more difficult target.....girls. IOW, its easier to be mean and ridiculing than to be real.
