Truthseeker....I arrived at that opinion myself by watching & listening to her speak on tv. I thought, wow, the Democrats have their own Pat Robertson and her name is Pelosi. Geez, it's just an opinion, and you know what they say about those.....and yet we're still all here after midnight on a Friday!

There are a lot of reasons Pelosi was chosen. First and foremost, she was minority leader (the highest ranking Democrat in the GOP-majority House), so that automatically gave her "first dibs". Second, she was definitely instrumental in pulling the Democrats back from the brink of self-destruction following losses in 2002 and 2004. Last, but not least, she was also one of the orchestrators of their 2006 campaign victories (which in turn gave her party the option of chosing her as speaker). I don't think she's a nutcase (a b*tch maybe, but not a nutcase).
It's like asking why Republicans chose an quiet, kinda slow ex-wrestling coach who somewhat resembles a bear as their Speaker, or a former exterminator who spent a little too much time with lobbyists as their former majority leader

She's in the pockets of many california businesses, and helped many freshman democrats obtain their new committee jobs. All except Murtha, that is. Loyalty among theives, I believe it's called.
